It also highlights the translocal connections between house, work and concrete dwelling in Vietnam and East London. Drawing upon participants’ private stories, I examine their journeys of migration and experiences of arrival in East London, framing the empirical materials inside ideas of navigation and urban learning. Alongside a recognition of the role of the city inside migrant experiences of residence, I argue that participants re-shape the city through their on a regular basis mobilities and practices of dwelling. The thesis examines connections between home and work in Vietnam, drawing upon understandings of the Vietnamese house as a site of connection to different locations and between living relations, ancestors and the spirit world.
